Disc Sander Cleaning From James & Billie Schafer, via e-mail: I need to clean the surface of my Shopsmith Disc Sander of the old glue that was used to hold the sandpaper to the Disc in order to prepare it for the new Velcro system. I tried mineral spirits, but that didn’t work too well. Neither did acetone. What product do I need to use to get a real clean surface for mounting the Velcro system? Here are three options:
1. Place the Disc (with paper attached) in an oven at about 150 degrees for about a half hour. When you remove it, the sandpaper (and accompanying “sticky stuff”) should remove easily.
2. Use a heat gun to remove the paper from the Disc.
3. Use lacquer thinner. Be sure to do this outdoors, where there’s adequate ventilation. Follow all the standard safety precautions for working with flammable materials such as lacquer thinners. Continue . . . |
