Man finally gets
MARK V he first wanted 40 years ago!
Richard Evens
of Mt. Summit, IN writes . . .
“My love affair
with the Shopsmith MARK V started when I was about a junior in college,
studying to be an industrial arts teacher. At the start of my teaching
career, I knew I would like to have a Shopsmith for myself, but had neither
the financial means nor the space for a shop.
During the years following, I just put this interest out of my mind. However,
I had an uncle who owned a Shopsmith and every time the family got together,
our conversation would turn to what he had made and what he was currently
building.
In 1986, I had a heart attack and during my recuperation time, I again
started thinking about how I would like to own a Shopsmith. I discussed
the prospect with my wife and in a short time, purchased a MARK V Model
510...only about 40 years after I first decided that I wanted one!
It’s been one of the best decisions and greatest equipment purchases I
have ever made!”
“Found” MARK V serves
Georgian for nearly 20 years!
Robert Maxfield
of Stone Mountain, GA writes . . .
“Nearly 20 years
ago, my son and his family moved into a rental house in a nearby town.
In the basement, he found an old Shopsmith MARK V. It wasn’t usable, as
many of its parts had been stripped off in the past.
After contacting the owner of the house and failing to find out who might
have owned it, we took possession of it and moved it to my shop. I obtained
Shopsmith’s address...and after a phone call, I was received a Shopsmith
catalog and was able to order and install the necessary parts to put the
unit in service. My son and I have been using it ever since.
About 10 years ago, a man knocked on the door and said that he understood
I had the Shopsmith unit he had left in the basement of a house he had
rented years ago. I showed him the unit and he said that yes, it was his.
I told him that I would gladly turn it over to him...but only if he reimbursed
me for the $375 I had spent on parts to put it back in service, or permitted
me to remove the parts I had purchased and installed.
He declined both options and told me that I was welcome to keep it. I
think he made a bad decision -- but his loss was my gain !”
