Texas Police Chief loves woodworking with his
MARK V

David Ashburn of Angleton, TX writes...
“I have owned my Shopsmith MARK V for a few years. I bought it from the original owner and find that it's a great woodworking tool that is unique to any other brand that I have seen. I never took woodworking class in school, nor had anyone to show me how. I am learning how to use my equipment, have attended one of Shopsmith's one-day classes and am planning to attend others in the future. I have the basic unit, plus a Bandsaw, Belt Sander, Jointer and a separate Pro-Planer. I find that going to my shop and working with wood and my MARK V is very relaxing. It helps with the stressful job I have - 20 years as Police Chief for the city of Angleton, TX.”

“Inherited” MARK V helps Texas man fulfill a long-term interest

Ron Carlson of Harker Heights, TX writes…
“I have been interested in woodworking for a long time but really never had any decent power tools. My son-in-law's parents moved into a new home last year, and along with it went Grandfather's 1985 MARK V. No one had used it in years.

When they found out I was interested in it, they told me if I would just get it out of their garage, I could have it. As you might guess, I wasted no time acquiring it! When I got it home, it was covered with cobwebs, dirt dobber nests and a lot of rust. I cleaned it up and it runs like new. How lucky can a guy get?

Just this year, I've built a console table for my daughter, three nesting tables for my daughter-in-law, a baby cradle for my wife, a full-size cradle for some friends of my daughter's and two custom-built speaker stands for my son-in-law.

Thanks, Shopsmith for such a great power tool!”

83-year-old Kansas man loves his MARK V

Aubrey Thomas of Tecumseh, KS writes…
“In 1980, just after I retired, I saw an ad for a Shopsmith MARK V. It was in another town about 100 miles away. I called that evening and said that I would be there to see it the next morning. It looked like it was just what I wanted. It came with Brad-Point Drill Bits in a box, Lathe equipment, Disc Sander, Retractable Casters, Mortise Bit Set, all the books and more. Some of the accessories were still wrapped in protective material! It also included a Bandsaw and Jointer.

To add to this, I am now 83 years old and have since added a Scroll Saw, Belt Sander and Shopsmith Dust Collector. I have built two roller cabinets to put the big items on with space for small items. I woodwork in my garage about six hours a day when I don't have other things to do. I have made cabinets for our church, as well as craft items for the church and Kiwanis club to sell. I love my MARK V!”
