Real Letters from
Shopsmith Power Tool Owners

Here at Shopsmith, our mailbox is constantly stuffed with great letters from Shopsmith Power Tool Owners, talking about how they use their tools and what they think about them. Here are some excerpts from just a few of the thousands of letters we’ve received from the members of our Shopsmith Family of satisfied owners throughout the years. We hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as we have.

Virginian has been a proud Shopsmith Owner since 1952!

Robert Fitzgerald of Huddleston, VA writes...
“In 1952, I purchased a new Shopsmith 10-ER for $271, complete. In 1956, my next door neighbor told me that she had bought a new MARK V, advertised her 10-ER for what she had originally paid for it, sold it on the first day and was still getting calls on it. She suggested that I do the same. I did so and sold mine within an hour to a caller she had referred to me. I went right down to a store in Falls Church and bought a MARK V with a Jointer, Jigsaw and a few other attachments for $371. It's still working fine and I use it mainly for drilling, sanding, shaping, lathe turning (and powering) my Scroll Saw, Jigsaw and Strip sander. What do I use for Sawing and Jointing? My (new) MARK V Model 510 and Bandsaw, of course!

Over the years, I have made much of the furniture in our home. Everything from three 4-poster beds to a piecrust table and many other tables, bookcases and cabinets. I was even granted a patent for a cap rack I made using Shopsmith tools from a single piece of wood. It's called a Capstack (r). I still have the invoices for my two earlier machines. The times may have changed considerably, but the quality of Shopsmith has not!”

Indiana man gets “deal-of-the-century” on used
MARK V in 1963 -- and he's STILL using it today!

David Taylor of Pennville, IN writes…
“In September of 1963, I went to an auction where some woodworking tools were listed for sale. An old MARK V was sitting in the back, nearly covered up with sawdust. It looked like it had been used as a catch-all for several years. It had not been listed in the sale flyer as being for sale.

The auctioneer finally worked his way down to it and stated that it wouldn't run but might be worth something for its salvage parts. I finally bid $25 for it and bought it ! I took it home and I must say that it was absolutely the sorriest piece of machinery I had ever seen! After a lot of hard work cleaning it up and replacing the start switch (which was all that was wrong with it), it's been running great ever since.

It still runs nearly every day and has done so for the last 36 years. The only problem I've had with it has been two timing-type drive belts and one V-belt in all this time.

My hat's off to you folks. The quality of Shopsmith equipment is the best I have ever used!
