The Jointer

Possible Cause


Remedy

Cutterhead sticks, squeals and/or vibrates

Bearings dry and/or worn

Return your Jointer to the factory for a bearing replacement

Knife locking wedges will not come out after the wedge lock screws are removed

Wedges are tightly seated. This is normal and a part of the overall safety design of the machine.

Keep turning the knife locking screws counterclockwise until the wedge pops loose.

Stock strikes the leading edge of the outfeed table when rabbeting

Your knives are set too low

Adjust your knife positions

Knives strike side of outfeed table

Knives set too far to right

Adjust knife positions

Chipping or ticking sound when Jointer is running

Knives are out of adjustment and are hitting casting

Turn off Jointer Immediately! Inspect knives for damage and regrind. Adjust knife positions.

Safety guard won't return to position against fence

No tension on spring

 

 

Tension Spring broken or missing

On older machines with aluminum guard, remove guard and turn knob clockwise, then replace guard On newer machines with Feather guard, re-adjust spring tension

Install new tension spring before using Jointer
