Consulting Engineer builds refinery models with
MARK V

William Leggett of El Segundo, CA writes...
“My dad bought a MARK V in 1956, the year I was born. It was the first piece of furniture my parents owned - even before a couch! As a consulting chemical engineer, he was often required to make working models of oil refineries as problems were not always to solve on a piece of paper. We built many models of vacuum towers, distillation columns and other prototype designs in order to determine their faults.

Many operating refineries were losing thousands of dollars every day because they weren't operating at peak efficiency. The MARK V has been an invaluable tool for us...and for the petroleum industry.”

California wife “comes to her senses” about husband's MARK V

W.G.R. of Barstow, CA writes...
“Let me tell you about my wife. Some time ago, I paid over $3,000 for my Shopsmith Ultimate Shop. At the same time, I also bought one of the snazziest motorcycles on the market. It's a real beauty. I now have over 8,000 miles on the bike; it gets 53 mpg and we've traveled more than we normally could because of the price of gasoline.

Sure, at first, the little woman (a redhead from Arkansas) was quite outspoken about the Shopsmith (“$3,000 for that ?”, she asked). But not too much was ever said about the bike. After all, it saved us money!

Now that both are a year old, I catch it about buying the bike! The Shopsmith? Well now, that makes us money! Plus, she's not talking about a new dining table, coffee table, end tables and the list is endless. I honestly believe she would sell anything - including the furniture we owned before the Shopsmith. Why? Well, “we” (really me) can make our own furniture! Case in point: This weekend during her yard sale, she sold the coffee table and end tables from the living room. My next project? You guessed it!

Indiana man uses MARK V to build heirloom “cat furniture” for 40-centes!

Thomas Hartley of Indianapolis, IN writes...
“I recently received my MARK V after waiting for five years. Yes, FIVE years! And the only way I could get it then was if I promised to also get a Jigsaw for my wife.

Well, we needed a scratching post for our cat. The price at the pet stores was $10 to $15. No way! With carpet and wood scraps, we came up with a solution. Results: a $15 scratching post for 40-cents, using the five basic tools and a lot of enjoyment.

Only one problem - the darn cat refuses to mar this fine piece of furniture!
